2024 Solar Eclipse Viewing Celebration in Warren

The Warren Library along with other community partners is sponsoring a 2024 Solar Eclipse Viewing Celebration beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Mon., April 8, at Warren G. Harding High School’s Mollenkopf Stadium, 860 Elm Rd. NE in Warren.

On April 8, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, placing Warren and Trumbull County into darkness for several minutes as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. The total eclipse phase is expected locally between 3:08 and 3:19 p.m. in Ohio.

The Viewing Celebration will include activities for all ages leading up to the total eclipse. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

Fun activities for all ages:*
• 1:30 – 4 p.m. Activity and Craft Stations
• 2 p.m. Eclipse Talk and Space Trivia
• 2:30 p.m. “Life in 1806 During the Last Eclipse” presented by Dr. Amy Fluker, Youngstown State University Associate Professor of Humanities & Social Sciences
• 3 p.m. Eclipse Viewing Begins!
*All activities are subject to weather conditions.

Food trucks will be parked at the event with food available for purchase:

• The Big Green Thing – Better Food Truck
• Mijavec’s Catering & Concessions

All W-TCPL locations will close to the public from 2:30 – 4 p.m.

Celebration attendees are urged to bring their own solar eclipse viewing glasses as they will not be available for distribution or purchase at the event.

The Warren Library has a limited supply of solar eclipse viewing glasses that will be distributed free of charge while supplies last to anyone who presents their valid Warren-Trumbull County Public Library (W-TCPL) card. Patrons may stop by the designated distribution area in the parking lot of the library, located at 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, on April 8 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and present their W-TCPL library card. The glasses will be available on a first-come-first-served basis and will be limited to one pair per cardholder. Patrons must be present at the pick-up distribution event with their library card in order to receive a pair of the viewing glasses.

The event is sponsored by the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, with support from community partners including The City of Warren, Trumbull County Historical Society, Trumbull County Tourism Bureau, and Warren City Schools.

Closing for Total Solar Eclipse

All W-TCPL services and locations will close to the public from 2:30 – 4 p.m. to allow library staff and patrons to view the Total Solar Eclipse.
