Off the Shelf: Romance Audiobooks

Romance Awareness Month is celebrated in August, and it is the perfect time to try listening to a romance novel on audiobook! Whether you like your romances super sweet or hot and spicy, there’s an audiobook just waiting for you.
A good narrator may transport you to Regency era London or take you to the hustle and bustle of modern NYC, adding a deeper level of enjoyment to your reading experience. With a variety of performance and production styles, it’s easy to fall in love with reading with your ears.
Beyond the traditional single narrator performance, there are three other types of production styles. Depending on the novel and the narrators, some are a better fit than others. If you’ve only listened to one type, I encourage you to try the others.
The production styles are:
Single narrator – one person performs the entire story.
Dual narrators – each narrator performs chapters or sections from their main character’s point-of-view.
Duet narration – female narrator voices all female characters; male narrator voices all male characters.
Full cast – multiple narrators perform different characters. May include sound effects (a la radio plays).
As a voracious audiobook reader, it’s difficult for me to share a short list of recommendations. There are so many great ones! Here are a just a few of my recent favorite romance listens. Warning: Heat levels may vary!
