Free Basic Notary Service Available at Most W-TCPL Libraries

(9/05/2023) – The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library (W-TCPL) now offers free basic notary services to the public at most library locations.

Notary service is available free of charge at the libraries in Brookfield, Cortland, Liberty, Lordstown, and Warren during regular library hours based on availability of notaries on staff. Individuals seeking notary service are asked to call before visiting the library to ensure availability of notary staff, and to arrive at least one hour before the library closes to allow sufficient time for service.

Individuals are also encouraged to call ahead to determine if the library can notarize a specific document type. The library’s free Notary service is intended for simple documents, such as transfer of an auto title, that do not require specialized expertise. Notaries at the library cannot notarize documents including real estate transactions, wills, corporate documents, documents with more than 10 pages, or documents not in English.

An individual who needs a document notarized must appear in person and present a valid form of government-issued photo identification. Individuals must bring their own witnesses if needed to complete the document. The library will not provide witnesses and witnesses may not be solicited from staff or other customers using the library.

A notary public is not a licensed attorney. Notaries cannot provide legal advice, nor can they assist in the preparation of legal forms.

In accordance with Ohio notarial law, the library’s notaries will not provide service if the patron, document, or circumstances of the request for notary service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty for the library. In this event, the Notary may, at his or her sole discretion, decline to provide notary service.

For more information about Notary service at the library, including accepted forms of ID and document type limitations, visit www.WTCPL.org or call (330) 399-8807 ext. 200.

The W-TCPL system includes locations in Brookfield, Cortland, Howland, Liberty, Lordstown, and Warren; a Bookmobile; and Library-By-Mail service.
