Celebrating 85 Years of Bookmobile Service in Trumbull County

(07/10/2023) – The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library is marking 85 years of Bookmobile library service this year with special celebrations for the community.

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library first instituted Bookmobile service in 1938 to provide books to residents in communities without a library. Today, the “library on wheels” travels to locations throughout Trumbull County, visiting housing complexes, preschool centers, senior living communities, and rural neighborhoods.

The Bookmobile is a full service library carrying materials for all ages. Library cardholders can check out materials including books, movies, and music; pick up requested items; and return items on the Bookmobile. The truck holds approximately 3,500 books, large type books, DVDs, and compact discs, including an expanded selection of fiction titles, audio books, and movies.

The current Bookmobile has been in service since 2020. Patrons can browse library materials placed on custom shelving along the interior of the truck. The exterior graphics on the truck represent the types of items library cardholders can borrow from the Bookmobile. Drawings of books along the sides represent different areas or highlights in Trumbull County, and the opening musical notes of Ohio’s official Rock Song, “Hang on Sloopy” are depicted on each side of the truck.

A free Bookmobile Birthday Beach Bash celebration for all ages will be held between 1 – 4 p.m. on July 17 at Mosquito Lake Beach. Additional celebrations will take place in the fall.
