Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Debuts New Mobile Pop-Up Library

(04/03/2025) – The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library (W-TCPL) is debuting a new Pop-Up Library vehicle that will take library materials and resources out into the community.

The library system in late 2022 was awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Education to help fund a new literacy outreach initiative. A key part of the Student Engagement Initiative is to use Pop-Up Library services to provide collections and programs for the growing needs of schools and students in Trumbull County.

“We are thrilled with this new opportunity to broaden our partnerships between families and the library through outreach events,” said Lori Faust, W-TCPL Community Engagement Manager.

Faust adds that taking programming including summer reading activities to places where families may already be visiting such as schools hosting summer enrichment programs, day camps, parks, and shelters can encourage parent and family involvement in fostering lifelong learning. The Pop-Up Library will also attend public events such as parades, farmers markets, activities in the park, and community festivals throughout the year.

“This new vehicle will allow the W-TCPL to offer young people and their families the opportunity to discover library materials and services in a new and exciting way,” Faust said.

The W-TCPL’s full-size Bookmobile continues to serve rural communities and neighborhoods with a regular schedule of stops throughout Trumbull County. The Pop-Up Library will provide an additional opportunity for residents to connect with library materials and services outside of library walls.

The vehicle can hold approximately 500 books along fixed shelving installed on the sides of the interior, and nearly double that number on portable carts. Visitors to the Pop-Up Library can sign up for a free library card and borrow books that can be returned to any W-TCPL library.

The custom outreach vehicle was built by Matthews Specialty Vehicles of Greensboro, NC, and took nearly 2 years to complete. The Pop-Up Library is 9 ft. 10 inches high, 24 ft. long, and features a 2022 Ford Transit-350 HD shell with a back lift gate.

The W-TCPL system includes libraries in Brookfield, Cortland, Howland, Liberty, Lordstown, and Warren; a Bookmobile; and Library-By-Mail service.
