Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Librarian Selected for Prestigious Leadership Program

(12/4/2024) – Emily Thirion, Community Engagement Librarian at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, has been selected for the 2025 class of the American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leaders program.

The ALA Emerging Leaders program is a prestigious leadership development initiative designed to empower newer library professionals from across the country. Participants collaborate in problem-solving workgroups, expand their professional networks, gain valuable insights into ALA’s structure, and take steps toward leadership roles in ALA and other library-related organizations.

“This program puts participants on the fast track to shaping the future of our profession!” Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Deputy Director Kim Garrett said. “Each year, only a select group of candidates is chosen for this honor, and we couldn’t be prouder that Emily has earned a place among them.”

Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Community Engagement Manager Lori Faust said, “Emily is an exceptional librarian whose creativity, innovative ideas, and empathy have made her instrumental in the development of the library’s Community Engagement outreach. I am thrilled that Emily was selected for this opportunity!”

Thirion earned her Master of Library and Information Science degree from Kent State University in May 2023. She was a teen associate at the Howland Library and has been in her current position as a Community Engagement Librarian for the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library for two years. She is a former teacher and swimming coach for Warren City Schools. Additionally, she has a B.S. in English, a B.A. in Psychology, and a B.A. in Secondary English Education from Duquesne University.

“I am honored to have been chosen for the Emerging Leaders program, and look forward to the opportunity to learn alongside other librarians from across the country!” Thirion said. “I am excited to gain an inside look into the ALA’s structure, problem-solve with peers, and serve my community in a leadership capacity. I love my library, and feel privileged to represent the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library system in this way. I would like to thank the Ohio Library Council for their sponsorship throughout the duration of the program.”
