Trumbull County Speaker Series Event Nov. 12 to Feature Key Figure in the Northern Ireland Peace Process
(08/19/2026) – The inaugural event in a new Trumbull County lecture series will feature the Rev. Harold Good, whose life’s work has taken him from Northern Ireland through Warren, Ohio, to the front lines of peacebuilding and reconciliation.
Rev. Good will share insights from a lifetime of advancing peace and reconciliation during a free presentation at 6 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 12, at the Warren Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW.
Rev. Good lifts the curtain on his remarkable life in his book, “In Good Time,” a memoir with Martin O’Brien. Good couldn’t have imagined that one day he would help change the course of Irish history, play a hitherto undocumented role in weapons disposal by FARC and ETA in Colombia and the Basque Country, and be asked by Queen Elizabeth II over lunch in Buckingham Palace for advice about her visit to Ireland.
Rev. Good was born in Northern Ireland, ordained to the Methodist ministry, and earned a Master of Sacred Theology from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Ind. He served as a youth minister at the First Methodist Church in Warren, Ohio, from 1964-1966 before returning to Northern Ireland.
One of two independent eyewitnesses to the decommissioning of IRA weapons in 2005, Rev. Good has received numerous awards for his peace work. He was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), is former President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, and director of the Corrymeela Centre for Peace and Reconciliation.
To register for this free event, visit www.wtcpl.org or call the library at (330) 399-8807.
Rev. Good’s presentation launches a new series designed to inspire meaningful dialogue and community engagement each year. The McFarland Speaker Series is a partnership of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library and the Trumbull County Historical Society. The series is made possible through the generosity of Jim McFarland, a former Trumbull County resident who remains committed to supporting programs that strengthen and enrich the community. The series will feature acclaimed guest speakers recognized for their outstanding contributions in the fields of art, music, literature, culture, and current affairs.
