  Midwest Crime Wave Bandits in Ohio @ Main

At the Main Library in Ohio. 

They have been written about in books, magazines, and newspapers and glorified on the silver screen and television.  Although the end came for most of these villains more than 80 years ago, their names are still fresh in the public’s mind today: John Dillinger, “Pretty Boy” Floyd, “Baby Face” Nelson, Bonnie & Clyde, “Machine Gun” Kelly, “Ma” Barker and her sons, and Alvin “Creepy” Karpis. 

Find out which of these bandits carried out their crimes in Ohio and the Mahoning Valley at this lecture presented by Allan May. May is a true-crime author and an authority on the history of organized crime in the United States. Copies of his books, including Crimetown USA and Welcome to the Jungle Inn, will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

At the Main Library in Warren. Join us for the unveiling of the bronze Literary Landmark plaque and a lecture about mystery author Earl Derr Biggers. Learn about some of the factors that shaped Biggers during his early life in Warren and how his Charlie Chan character influenced popular literature at the time.   Live Music at the Library: Classical Guitarist Kevin Sherwin @ Main

At the Main Library in Warren. Classical guitarist Kevin Sherwin will perform from traditions of both folk and art music, ranging from kingly dances and operatic serenades to native folk traditions of South America and Spain. The program concludes with compositions dedicated to great guitarists of the 20th century and shows how these composers drew from the instrument’s rich cultural history to create new compositions. Sherwin is a soloist and leader of orchestral and choral ensembles. He has performed across the country, debuting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and performing at the Great Music Series in San Diego and the Music without Borders Festival of Montreal. A student at Yale University, he studied guitar at the Juilliard School. No reservations necessary.
